Self Protection for Women -Can Tazers Be the Answer?

Categories: Home  |  Tags:

The best defense that any woman has against being a victim is her brain. Keeping your wits about you in every situation and ensuring that you do not enter into situations where you are likely to become a victim is your first and best line of defense.

Parking and looking around at the situation, determining who is between you and your destination is one way to assure that you don’t enter areas where you may be subject to injury. Before getting out of your car, determine not only how far away your destination is, but what places are too darkened to be able to see into and where someone may be standing.

Carry some type of personal protection device with you that will help you to be in charge of the situation if you are assailed.

The most common thing that women carry today is a personal alarm or a whistle. Quite often the alarms and whistles that women are told to carry and to use are the least effective method of protecting them that they could have selected. According to statistics, a woman who depends on an alarm or a whistle to protect herself is depending, effectively, on another person, not the device. She must depend on the fact that someone will be in hearing distance to be able to hear the whistle or the alarm. In addition, she is also depending on the fact that those same people will be willing to come to her aid, rather than coming to assist someone in her injury. The risks of carrying something as simple as a device such as a personal alarm are far too great.

More likely candidates for personal defense are stun guns or tasers. A taser is by no means a traditional device for self protection and in many states you must determine whether or not the taser is a legal defense.

A Tazer contains small barbs. The wires are shot out toward the assailant while he or she is still a distance from you. This means that they are not as close quarters as the stun gun must be. Tazers then deliver a high charge of electricity to the assailant that is enough to disable them until you have the chance to remove yourself from the vicinity and alert authorities.

One word of caution. Once you have used a device such as tazers, it is imperative that you leave the area immediately. Even before you alert authorities, ensure that you are in relative safety and then call the police to the area.

Give your assailant the chance to recover from the use of the tazers by waiting around in the immediate area is exposing yourself to more risk. This is particularly true if your assailant has any kind of weapon available to themself. Once you use the tazer, leave the area immediately and phone the police from a nearby business or building.
